I head up the K3 Tax Advisory VAT and other Indirect Taxes VAT team and I am a Director with over 30 year’ experience  in VAT (and other Indirect Taxes).

I have a reputation for providing practical, pragmatic and commercially focused advice to businesses of all sizes, from sole prop, OMB, SME to mid and large corporates.

I started in VAT at HMRC, before moving into practice with Big 4 and mid-tier accounting firms. I have also held two in-house roles with household names (Virgin and Thomas Cook). I am very much a VAT generalist, advising on all areas of VAT, including land & property, VAT exemptions, VAT recovery (including international), VAT liability and VAT compliance, and also have specialist knowledge of international trade in goods and services (B2B and B2C) and the Travel Leisure and Hospitality sector (including TOMS).

Qualifications: Member of the ICAEW VAT and Duties CommitteeSpecialisms: supply chains, corporate finance transactions, due diligence, VAT structuring, Travel, Hospitality and Leisure and general VAT advisory and compliance.

Notable examples clients I have advised on are:

  • A post transaction detailed VAT review of a corporate travel business, regularising its VAT compliance and accounting, leading to the submission of a net VAT reclaim for £250,000 (against a suggested DD risk of a £750,000 liability)
  • The application of the VAT legislation for health-based charity that acquired a large health club estate from a commercial operator, leading to VAT savings of £2m a year
  • Acting as an expert witness in a VAT dispute concerning the application of the Tour Operators Margin Scheme
  • A large funeral-based business on the application of VAT exemptions and VAT grouping legislation, leading to savings of up to £1m per annum
  • A detailed review of a large mechanical engineering company’s international supply chain, helping them to implement Customs authorisations saving £1.5m in Customs Duties per annum
